Jim & Nick's BBQ

Day three of BBQ Across America began in Charlotte with disappointment. Today called for a trip to the famous Bill Spoons BBQ, but apparently Bill only serves the Que between 10:30 - 3:00 Monday through Saturday - this guy must be doing some bang up business to only be open 27 hours a week.

So with the help of Bryan, Shingai's college friend, we headed to Jim & Nick's a few minutes away. We had high hopes when we drove up and there was smoker and pile of wood outside.

Once in side, we learned this was a chain from Alabama who prides themselves on making everything from scratch and had the smoker outside to back it up. We ordered a sampler of their smoked meats including pulled pork, baby back ribs, hot links and brisket.

Ratings:
Pork - 4 - flat on taste with a middle of the road sauce
Baby Back Ribs - 7- very smokey, good pink smoke ring, sauce was ok
Hot Links -5- we were most excited about this, the links were spicy but they lacked flavor
Brisket - 5-good crunch on the outside pieces, but mostly dry and chewy
Mac & Cheese - our first mac and don on the trip, creamy but not a lot of flavor
Coleslaw -6- creamy and really peppery - Shingai liked it
Collard Greens -6- good flavor but really watery

Ambiance -2- Looked like a barn and an Applebee's had a love child, no memorable quotes from the quick, but corporate staff

Overall - 5- the ribs had a good smoky flavor, but the sweet sauce was pedestrian at best, lacking any discernible flavors. There were two standouts though, the cheddar biscuits and their habanero BBQ sauce which had good flavor and so me nice heat.
