When you visit a town that bills it's self as the "BBQ Capital of the World" you can't just try one joint. So after visiting Lexington BBQ, the owner, Rick, sent us to try The Bar-B-Q Center. He called it, "The place he would go for good food if Lexington BBQ was closed." So we headed across town, about one block, for our second lunch of the day.
The Bar-B-Q Center prides itself on the their pit smoke pork BBQ, red coleslaw and their Q Soup.
The coleslaw was the typical North Carolina vinegar based slaw, but with the inclusion of ketchup to give it the red hue, unfortunately it was a little too sweet for us. The BBQ pork is served course chop in a spicy vinegar sauce. The meat was juicy and tender.
The Q soup was their take on Brunswick Stew and was just a simple vegetable soup with BBQ on top. We had high hopes for this one, but it was just ok.
Ratings;
Ambiance - 6.5 - dining space was dated, but nice and clean. Condom machine in the bathrooms was a nice throwback.
Overall - 7.5- Pork was juicy and flavorful, but just not as good as Lexington BBQ
